We're excited to have Allison Poklemba join us as a guest teacher in Rosemary and Jane's Spirit & Essence of Herbalism Apprenticeship offering!

Allison will guide us into the nourishing world of seaweeds where we’ll explore marine ecology, sustainable harvesting, and the ways these ocean allies support long-term resilience and nourishment.

It’s a reminder that herbalism includes the waters as well as the woods.

Allison Poklemba is an herbalist, educator, and nature-based book publisher (Backcountry Press) whose work explores the relationships between plants, people, and place. She teaches herbalism as Co-Director of @dandelionherbalcenter with an emphasis on ecological awareness, traditional uses of plants, and careful, respectful harvesting practices. Seaweeds hold a special place in Allison's heart and she has spent decades studying and working with them: weaving together hands-on experience, scientific understanding, and traditional knowledge. Her classes invite students to slow down, observe closely, and build meaningful connections with the living systems that sustain us—both on land and at the ocean’s edge.

🌙 Herbalism by the Moon with guest teacher Emily Ruff

Some traditions in herbalism ask us to slow down and pay attention...not just to the plants themselves, but to the rhythms that guide their growth.

In this beautiful apprenticeship class, Emily Ruff guides students in the time-honored practice of working with lunar cycles in the garden and the apothecary.

Together, apprentices explore how the moon’s phases and signs can gently inform when we plant, harvest, tincture, and save seed. It’s a class that deepens our sense of timing, rhythm, and attentiveness to the quiet influence of the moon on plant life.

Emily has been a dear friend and colleague of Rosemary’s for many years, and we are so grateful to have her share her wisdom with this year’s circle of apprentices.

About Emily Ruff
Emily is a longtime herbalist, educator, and community organizer devoted to restoring herbal traditions and ecological stewardship. She is the founder of the Florida School of Holistic Living and a longtime advocate for plant conservation through her work with organizations such as United Plant Savers. Emily has spent decades teaching people how to cultivate deeper relationships with plants, land, and community.

In Fall 2018, Emily helped transition Sage Mountain Botanical Sanctuary into a nonprofit sanctuary and lovingly carries on Rosemary's legacy—connecting people of all ages and walks of life with the plants.

It is a true gift to have her guiding this class.

🌿 Emily is one of the many beloved guest teachers joining Rosemary Gladstar and Jane Bothwell for the Spirit & Essence of Herbalism Apprenticeship — a 10-month journey into hands-on herbal practice, mentorship, and community learning.

If your heart has been longing to deepen your relationship with the plants, we would love to welcome you into the circle.
